Kleinmond Campus

This campus is situated in the quaint coastal village, Kleinmond, situated along the False Bay coast. This town is well known for its beautiful Arabella Spa and Golf Estate, its angling and picturesque hiking trail on route to the Overberg.  It further plays host to one of the official satellite campuses of the Boland College Caledon Campus.

This Campus started as the vision of Ms Sally Timmel, a well known member of the Kleinmond Community and part of the Grail Centre Trust.  She had envisaged a community college which was to serve the unemployed youth of the area as well as to upskill older members of the community in order to increase their earning potential. 

The groundwork for this campus started in 2004 when surveys were conducted among the expanding informal settlement, Overhills. These surveys showed that, among others, in excess of 750 households were in need of proper housing.  An initiative to build houses started but a lack of skilled labour in the area stood in the way of progress. The logical step followed which was to contact Boland College to train locals in building related fields. 

From there this campus went from strength to strength which eventually lead to the launching of the Mthimkhulu Village Centre (today the Kleinmond Campus of Boland College).  It was opened on 4 March 2007 by the then Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and attended by a high powered delegation including Western Cape Premier. 

The word Mthimkulu literally means, "the big tree", aptly named so because of the huge tree in growing in the center of the premises.  What made this even more special is that it is the oldest tree in the area and adds symbolic value; that through education you can anchor your rots deep and leave a lasting legacy.

FROM STELLENBOSCH:

Start on Merriman St in Stellenbosch and head towards Adam Tas St (R44).
Turn left onto Adam Tas St (R44).
Follow R44 for 11.5 km.
Turn onto the N2 in the direction of George.
Follow N2 for 40.8 km.
Turn onto R43 in the direction of Kleinmond, Hermanus.
Turn right onto R44.
Follow R44, which becomes Main Rd, and turn right onto 6th St.
Turn right onto 9th Avenue, Kleinmond Campus on your left-hand side.

FROM HERMANUS:

Start on Marine Dr in Overstrand.
Turn right onto ramp.
Turn left onto Main Rd (R43).
Follow R43 for 7.7 km.
Turn left onto R44.
Follow R44, which becomes Main Rd, and turn right onto 6th St.
Turn right onto 9th Avenue, Kleinmond Campus on your left-hand side.

FROM CALEDON:

Start on Prince Alfred Rd (R316) in Theewaterskloof and head towards N2.
Turn left onto N2.
Continue on N2 and take the R43 exit.
Turn left onto R43.
After 6.9 km turn left onto R43.
Turn right onto R44.
Follow R44, which becomes Main Rd, and turn right onto 6th St.
Turn right onto 9th Avenue, Kleinmond Campus on your left-hand side.
