The Marketing students hosted a very successful fund raising event on Thursday 11 August, at Boland College Strand Campus. They represented 6 countries from around the world and depicted the culture, sold the food and sampled the music of the different countries. Of course there was also the more serious side as they were tested on different marketing & advertising skills that forms part of their curriculum and the students knew the funds raised would be donated to the Somalia drought refugee crisis via the SABC’s crisis relief initiative on the breakfast news program Morning live.
According to Ms Moller, Marketing Lecturer, “The students outdid themselves and this was the start of an annual event on the Boland College calendar, one can really look forward to.”
The few hundred rand the students managed to raise was donated to the Gift of the Givers Foundation who are co-coordinating the collection and distribution of the relief packages directly to Somalia with the help of six aircraft sponsored by the South African government. Gift of the Givers has to date provided 112 tons of aid to Somalia over the past two weeks.
