Boland College Strand Campus was given a grant to the tune of R1.4 million by the power utility Eskom to buy and implement equipment for the NCV Electrical Engineering Construction programme.
Out of 22 colleges that applied for this grant, only three where chosen to be worthy recipients of this grant and Boland College was one this small group of chosen colleges.
“We applied for this grant to help us make the students’ learning experience more practical and industry driven with the help of the correct equipment,” says Christiana Neal, Senior Manager: Procurement and Assets from Boland College Head Office.
The application for this grant was made by Boland College to Eskom and will be effective for the maximum of three years where after Eskom will detach itself from this project and the college will operate autonomously with the equipment that has been given to them.
“It is wonderful that parastatals, such as Eskom, assists us in meeting the needs of the Helderberg community and substantiates our mantra of best students, best programmes, best resources, best partnerships,” says Jandré Bakker, Manager: Marketing and Corporate Communication.
Boland College will be able to service full-time NCV students and help alleviate the skills shortage in the electrical engineering industry with this grant.
