
The Further Education and Training Act, number 16 of 2006, stipulates the following with regard to a student representative council (SRC):
The establishment, composition, manner of election, term of office, functions and privileges of the student representative council of a public college must be determined by the council after consultation with the students and lecturers of the college, subject to provincial policy.
The College acknowledges the role that the SRC as Student association plays in the student community and supports the goals of the Student Council, namely:
All students enrolled at Boland College are automatically members of the student association.
As students of Boland College, Student Council Members undertake to abide by the overhead Code of Conduct for Students of Boland College. Members of the SC undertake to abide by the Behaviour Code by:
The term of the SC will be from January to December each year. The period from the election till the end of the year will serve as the transition stage during which the outgoing SRC will assist the new incoming members with regard to planning.
Only registered students are eligible to serve on the SRC. The SRC must be representative of the student body. The election of SRC members must be democratic and transparent.
The SRCs of colleges that are to be merged must have a meeting before the merger to constitute a single interim SRC comprising all members of the SRC concerned for a period not exceeding six months.
