The famous Greek philosopher Plato said the following: “A good decision is based on knowledge and not on numbers”. At Boland College Paarl Campus, we wholeheartedly agree with this! So with equipping and knowledge in mind, we hosted a career exhibition on 18 August 2016 for our current students.

The day had the aim to connect current students with prospective employers and to inform them of the various employment opportunities within their specific field of study. As the time to enter the job market is nearing, students need to be informed regarding the different choices, to be able to make an informed and sound decision about their future and their careers.

This had been the second year that the College hosted a career exhibition. Role-players included travel agencies, the Department of Labor, national government agencies, local tertiary institutions and local entrepreneurs. Focus was placed specifically on the N5 and N6 students from Financial Management, Hospitality and Catering Services, Educare, Management Assistant and Construction courses.

Although the focus was on exit-level students, the new students were not excluded from exploring their options. An exciting PowerPoint presentation was shown and students were guided through the steps to choosing a career.

The hall was packed with students from 09h00 to 12h00 and exhibitions and employers were kept busy with questions and enquiries. The career exhibition also had the aim to enable students to interact on a direct basis with the employers and get the information regarding their sector first-hand from the specialist in the field.

We really hope this day has provided some insight and knowledge to our students and that employers have also seen the potential amongst our students and will utilise it in their various sectors.

We would like to thank everybody involved in the planning of the day and would like to extend an extra special thank you to all institutions and exhibitors for partnering with us to make education practical.
